Week 52: Dress 52 [01/07/12]
It’s official!! I have consecutively made one dress a week for a whole year!
This week (definitely the most expensive), I used about 6 yards of an ivory satin bridal fabric, about half a yard of ivory floral lace, a 12” ivory invisible zipper, and 12 half circle buttons. Design details include: a double darted bust, floral lace contrast yoke and slitted back, an empire waistline with lace highlight, a center back zipper closure, center back accent buttons, fitted gown with mermaid flare, and a bridal circular train! Also made the bouquet by hand using two sets of 6 two-tone daisies, pearl accents, and ivory ribbon. (‘:
It has been an AMAZING experience and I wanted to thank you all for the support and messages I’ve been blessed with along the way! To all 2000+ of you, whether you started following from the beginning or just an hour ago, thank you so soo much!! I started this project blindly with simple hopes of making 2011 a big year (it was also the year of my 18th birthday, my high school graduation, and start of college!). All of the new relationships and collaborations were an incredible plus to this project. Given that there were tough times though, nothing compares to this overwhelming feeling of support from everyone and actually reaching the finish line. I swear I had so much more to say, but I’m choking up just knowing this is the last post of my project. I’m grateful for 2011. Happy 2012! (‘:
Credits to Brian Dublin for these photos && my cousin, Blessie Millare, for helping with the windy & cold photo shoot!!

I’m so incredibly proud of this woman. One night in December of 2011, she asked me “Hey Brian, if I did a project where I made a dress every week for a year, would you support me?”
“HELL YEAH!”
And before I knew it, the next week she posted her first dress.
I’m forever grateful to have been given the opportunity to shoot her last two dresses. So happy to be at least a little part of this amazing project and journey. It’s been a pleasure witnessing it all, week by week the whole year.
I’m currently writing this on my phone while on the way home. Full photo set from this shoot will be up on my photoblog shortly!

I love ya Jamila! So proud of you homie. :)
Thank you so much, Brian!
Crazy, crazy feeling. <3
Aside from being an infinite amount of inspiration, her solid commitment to this project shows the dedication and passion she has in everything she touches. Can’t put into words how proud I am of this woman and her incredible capabilities. I’m so grateful and lucky to have her in my life.
Love Letter #2
They say as the island of knowledge expands, so do the shores of ignorance. I may appear strong, but all humans are still susceptible to influence. We will have our faults and adhere to our dissidence, but don’t fret - the love will always be innocent. We will have our differences.
I’m not perfect but we all know it’s a given. Though we may struggle, just know we can win it. I’ll take bullets and fight battles to my own limits - just don’t kick me while I’m down to prove “survival of the fittest”. We have a good thing going and I don’t want to see the finish.
A lesson we will forever be learning: communication is key. I’m still learning to walk again, love, won’t you walk with me? I might be blind sometimes but there’s a light you provide, you see. They say behind nearly every great man is a great woman’s love - let’s make history.
Love Letter #1
I’ve always loved a little more passionately than expected. It’s been engraved in my habits to hold on to something good when you get it. I never want to regret letting go if it’s blessed, so apologies in advance if my grip is a little bit invested.
It’s been a good while since time has passed, so this is my way of savoring the moment - while it lasts. You said you always loved my way with words and linguistic class, so I’m writing you this poetic version of a love letter - by now you’ve done the math.
You inspire me so much I’d be a fool to let it go to waste. I must say, love, in anything you do - you have such great taste. We don’t always agree though, but that’s usually the case. I hope we can make it work, love - relationships like this are difficult to replace.
truly yours,
Yours Truly
Valentine’s.
AKA Singles Awareness Day (for you bitter folks out there)
I never thought this “holiday” really had a purpose other than giving Hallmark and flower shops across the nation a marketing scheme. If you’re single, you find your gag reflex and, for some of you, bitterness is particularly high on this day. If you’re in a relationship, you’re probably scheming something cliche to somehow impress your significant other. And oh, do those creative juices flow.
I also never found a reason to want to completely omit such a reminder. If there’s anything this unique day has taught me, it’s to take a chance. On an opportunity. On someone. On love.
Sometimes that part of our lives are neglected for our personal goals, plans, other distractions, even fear of love itself. We make excuses for ourselves to avoid disappointment. In despair, we often look for signs to hopefully point us in the right direction. Well, I don’t think Cupid needs to tell us twice.
This one’s for those of you who took that leap of faith and found it.
For those who are waiting - go get ‘em!
